Where food cost slips

Supplier prices move every week, but menu prices are set once and costed on the back of an invoice.

Trim and cooking loss are left out, so a dish that looks like 28 % food cost really runs higher.

Most free templates cost one recipe at a time, so a price change means re-typing every card.

Restaurant software does this well, but as a monthly subscription that a small kitchen may not need.

What the workbook will hold

You keep one ingredient list with purchase price, unit and yield. Recipe cards pull from it, so when a price changes you update one cell and every dish is re-costed.

  • An ingredient list with purchase unit, price and yield %
  • Recipe cards that compute cost per portion and plate cost
  • Food-cost % per dish and a suggested price at your target %
  • A menu overview that flags dishes above target
  • Works in Excel and in Google Sheets, with a filled-in example menu
  • A one-page start guide and a short set-up video

Questions

Is the workbook available?

Not yet. Recipescosting is pre-launch. This page checks whether kitchens want it before it is built. Reserving only counts your click; no payment details are asked for and nothing is charged.

When does it launch and what will it cost?

The planned launch window is January 2027. The planned launch price is $29, one-time, no subscription. Reserving now is free and no payment is taken today.

What happens when I press reserve?

After one short question, the reserve button counts your click and shows a page that says the workbook is not available yet and that nothing was charged. This page collects no e-mail address, so it cannot tell you when it is ready.

Does it connect to my POS or suppliers?

No. You type prices in, or paste them from a supplier list. It does not read your point-of-sale system or order from suppliers.

Excel or Google Sheets?

Both: the same workbook for Excel and a copy for Google Sheets. Excel and Google Sheets are trademarks of their owners; this workbook is not made or endorsed by them.
